FTC is the investigative federal agency that is responsible for doing investigations and take action against fraudulent business practices. FTC is made for the protection of consumer rights. FTC has three bureaus and each bureau is made for different responsibilities the name of the bureaus are Economics, consumer protection, and competition. FTC has authority and is powerful enough to take action against fraudulent business practices. The FTC has many acts which are made to protect consumer rights one of the most significant laws by FTC is Antitrust Law.



What is FTC Antitrust Law?

The FTC Antitrust law is made to prevent the illegal mergers of business and business practices. Congress first made the antitrust law in 1890 from that day till today the FTC antitrust law is objective to protect the consumers the process of competition are observed. 

What are the significant features of antitrust law? 

The FTC makes sure that products should be at a low price with good quality. 

The severe penalties of the Sherman Act are also a part of FTC antitrust law it is different in nature because most of the acts in the law are civil but the Sherman Act is criminal prosecution. If the business violates the laws then penalties can be severe which can be up to $100 million for the cooperatives and $ 1 million for individuals and can also get you in the prison for 10 years. The Sherman Acts criminal prosecution is for those who violate the clear and intentional laws such as rig bid and fixed prices. The Act can also ban unfair methods for competitions and deceptive, unfair acts and practices. The Sherman Act and FTC laws interconnected because the US Supreme Court state that all the violation of Sherman ACT is also the violation of FTC ACT. 

Clayton ACT is also a part of antitrust law it is also an important act because the Sherman ACT is prohibit the merger of the business while the Clayton is for the prohibition of acquisitions and mergers. The ACT effect on the business substantially because of the ACT the competition among business will be lessened. The ACT can also ban services, allowances, and discriminatory announces that are dealing between merchants of the business.
