WHAT ARE THE RULE AND REGULATIONS OF FTC?

The FTC is headed by five commissioners who serve seven-year terms. Commissioners are nominated by the president and confirmed by the Senate. By law, no more than three commissioners may be members of the same political party. The FTC is divided into three main bureaus: Consumer Protection, Competition, and Economics.

The main goals and aims of FTC are listed below:

  • To protect consumers by preventing fraud, deception and unfair business practices.

  • To maintain business competition by preventing anticompetitive mergers and other anticompetitive business practices.

  • To advance FTC performance by striving for organizational, individual and management excellence.

FTC ALSO DESIGNS RULE AND REGULATIONS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA:

The FTC Law Firm has released a new publication for online influencers that lays out the agency’s rules of the road for when and how influencers must disclose sponsorships to their followers.

The guide and accompanying videos underscore that the responsibility to make disclosures about endorsements lies with the influencer. The guide outlines the various ways that an influencer’s relationship with a brand would make disclosures necessary, and it reminds influencers that they cannot assume that followers are aware of their connections to brands.
